Dave and I visited Herrenberg today. I enjoy the small towns surrounding Stuttgart, rather than the city itself. I found Herrenberg by googling "German towns to visit near me." It was only a 30 minute train journey with only one transfer.

After our 16 minute walk to the train station, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for our S60 train. We rode two stops and changed to the S1 train. When we arrived five stops later at Herrenberg, I headed for the thrift stores and Dave headed off to take photographs.

The thrift store I visited was called Secondhand Boutique TRAGBAR. Their inventory was very nice. They had clothes in all sizes. They had a nice selection of purses, shoes, and scarves. Their items were more high-end. Lots of items in the 30 ($35) range.

The town was very cute. It had winding cobblestone lanes lined with half-timbered houses. There were many cute shops, restaurants, and bars. Many shops were closed for the holiday. The Saturday market had cheese, fruit and vegetables, and flowers.

The town square was up a hill. In the fog above was a church. Higher above was a castle. I didn't go any higher than the town square.

I visited a department store called Zinser, which reminded me of Macys. I visited a very cute gift shop called ARTIS Feinkost für die Seele (ARTIS Delicacies for the Soul). It reminded me of Heartstrings in Miller without the coffee shop. I also visited a specialty foods store with a cheese and olive counter.

It was cold. I wore two layers of pants, a long sleeve shirt, a puffer jacket, a scarf, and a hat and gloves. It was still cold. Visiting the stores warmed me up. Poor Dave did not wear a second layer of pants, and he never goes into the stores. We had lunch at a cafe and after we left Dave thought being inside made it feel worse outside.

We made it to the train station and our train was there waiting. This was unnerving, because the trains usually arrive and depart immediately. We had to go downstairs, under one set of tracks, and back upstairs. Luckily, our train was still there.

We had a smooth journey home. In Maichingen, I stopped at the REWE grocery store before our walk home. When we got back to the house Dave fell asleep on the couch under a pile of blankets.
